Winter Camping Checklist

Footwear

Socks, 3 to 5 pairs of wool or synthetic material (no cotton!)
Hiking boots (Gore-Tex lined or water-proofed) or,
Snow boots (i.e. Sorels)
Gaiters (optional)

Upper Body Layers

Base layer (wicking layer)
Polypropylene or Capilene long underwear
Mid layer (insulating layer)
Choose at least one from mid-weight and one from heavy-weight section
Mid-weight
Wool shirt
Pile shirt (Polartec 100 weight)
Heavy-weight
Pile Jacket (Polartec 300 weight)
Heavy wool sweater
Down or fiberfill jacket
Outer layer
Breathable outer shell to keep mid layer dry

Lower Body Layers

Polypropylene or Capilene long underwear
Pile pants with outer shell or,
Snow pants, or
Ski bibs
(no cotton, i.e. blue jeans)

Hats & Gloves

Wool or Pile hat
Gloves (minimum two pair)
Balaclava (optional)
Sleeping Gear & Tent
Wool Blanket or second sleeping pad
Sleeping pad (closed cell foam or lightweight air mattress style)
Sleeping bag (Synthetic or down,  0ºF rating)
Second sleeping bag if first sleeping bag is not 0ºF rated
Tent & ground cloth (share with buddy)

Miscellaneous Personal Gear

Water Bottle (wide mouth nalgene)
Lip Balm
Sunscreen (SPF 15+)
Sunglasses or Ski goggles
Headlamp or Flashlight
Toiletries (tooth brush, toothpaste, comb, etc)
Handkerchiefs or bandana
First aid kit, personal
Handwarmers or Footwarmers
